Sitemaps for Google and OthersSitemaps are a way for webmasters to inform search engines about web pages on web sites that are available for crawling. It is an XML file that lists URLs (the address you see in the Address Bar of a Web Browser) for a web site along with metadata about each URL, like when the page was last updated, how often it usually gets updated, and how important it is relating to the rest of the site. Its purpose is to allow search engines to more intelligently crawl the site. Web crawlers discover pages on a web site from links within the site and from other web sites that link to your web site. Sitemaps supplement this data so web crawlers (ones that support Sitemaps, Like Google for example) can pick up all of the URLs in the Sitemap and discover additional URLs using the associated metadata.
